Deactivating vs. Deleting Your Account: What’s the Difference?

Thinking about stepping away from Pratilipi for a bit? We have two options for you depending on how long you want to be gone: Deactivating and Deleting.

Here is the simple difference between the two!

Deactivating Your Account (The "Pause" Button)

Deactivating is perfect if you just need a temporary break.

  • What happens: Your profile, stories, and comments will be hidden from other users, and it will look like you aren't on the platform anymore.
  • Is it permanent? Nope! We keep all your data safe and sound. The moment you are ready to come back, just log in with your email and password, and everything will be exactly as you left it.

Deleting Your Account (The "Goodbye Forever" Button)

Deleting is for when you are 100% sure you want to leave Pratilipi and don't plan on coming back.

  • What happens: When you request a deletion, we immediately log you out of all your devices and hide your profile.
  • The 7-Day Grace Period: We know mistakes happen! When you delete your account, we send you an email and give you 7 days to change your mind. If you log back in during those 7 days, your deletion is canceled.
  • Is it permanent? Yes. After the 7 days are up, our system permanently wipes your entire history, library, coins, and stories across all our apps. Once this happens, there is no way to get it back!

Still unsure? If you are on the fence, we always recommend Deactivating first so you don't lose your favorite stories!
