While ratings are based on simple numeric votes cast by users for a story, user reviews are written essays, in which users explain what they liked or disliked about a story and offer other criticism. Reviews can vary in length from a few lines to several hundred words.

The two are complementary to each other: users can either rate on a story or write a review along with rating.
