FAQs for New Premium Feature

If you are an eligible writer and your series is part of superfan subscription program, then going forward this is how this change will impact you:

1. How does it impact my earning opportunity on Pratilipi? 

 

We are delighted to inform you that we are bringing an equal opportunity to earn for all the golden badge owning writers. Now you don’t have to wait for the Pratilipi team to reach out to you. You will be able to add any of your completed or ongoing series under ‘premium subscription programme’ anytime by yourself.

 

2. What happens to my ongoing series which are part of the superfan subscription program?

 

The series which are currently part of the superfan subscription program will automatically be included under ‘premium subscription program’. However, there are some changes we are doing to the way readers are reading your series. Your series will be locked from the 16th part onwards. Earlier, all the readers had to wait for 5 days to read locked parts from the date of publishing. With this change, to read the series for free, now readers have to wait for one day to unlock the next part after they finished reading the last part. Similar to the way premium series can be read on the platform.

 

3. Why is Pratilipi considering this change? 

 

To bring the equal opportunity to earn and increase earnings of all the eligible writers from premium subscription programs. Because with the current model, once you publish new parts, after 5 days it will be free for everyone to read. So if a new reader visits your profile after the series is completed, they can read all chapters without any lock. But with this change, it will be locked after the 16th part forever. The series will be unlocked only for those who read the previous parts, without regarding the publishing date.

4. What will change for my readers?

 

• They will see the locked parts from the 16th part onwards and not earlier than that.

• Waiting period will be 1 day instead of 5 days from their last read part.

• Similar to premium series, readers have to wait for 1 day to read the next part. To  read it continuously without waiting, they can either subscribe to Pratilipi premium or subscribe to super fan subscription or unlock individual episodes with 5 Pratilipi coins.

5. How can I opt in my new ongoing series under ‘premium subscription program’?

 

While writing a new series, the first 15 parts will be free. Once the 16th part gets published, it will be auto opted in under the premium subscription programme. Authors wont be able to see the opt in option while publishing the first 15 parts. Opt in option will be visible from 16th part only. 

 

6. How can I opt in my completed series under ‘premium subscription program’?

 

If you are writing series currently under super fan subscription, then your content will get automatically opted in under this new change. If you have completed a series and you wish to opt in under this program, then you can visit your series page in the ‘write’ section, click ‘edit information’ and opt in your series under this program. As of now, opting in won't be working if you visit the series from the profile page. Please visit the series from the ‘write’ section. Also, once you select opt in, within a few hours (maximum time limit is 24 hours) you will get a confirmation message and your series will be included in this new change / feature.

 

7. How can I remove my series from the ‘premium subscription program’?

 

You will not be able to directly opt out. In the series edit screen, you can click ‘no’ for the option ‘Make it part of a paid program’. It will raise a request to our team. Our team will reach out to you in 72 hours & help you to opt out. 

 

8. Why is the manual opt out option being removed from the app/website?

 

We want to give consistent experience to our readers who are paying to read. Abrupt removal of series from the programme, breaks trust of our readers who are paying to read those series upfront. 

 

9. Are there any changes in my writing process? 

 

For opted in series under premium subscription program ->

 

• parts will not be able to be deleted or drafted. You can contact our team via whatsapp number or [email protected] for making changes otherwise.

• However, you will be able to edit the content of any part of the series.

• Attaching / detaching parts will not be allowed

• reordering of the parts inside the series will not be allowed.

 

10. Why are there new restrictions in the writing process?

 

We are doing this to avoid bad user experience for premium subscribers. Let's say a reader has taken a premium/superfan subscription & has started reading a certain series. If an author removes any part or reorders parts of the series, then the reader’s reading experience will be hampered.

11. What if I mark my series as completed?

 

Everything will remain as it is. Your series will remain under premium subscription programme & series will be locked from 16th part. Marking a series as completed, will help us promote your content to a wider audience.

 

12. Can I schedule a draft/part in the opted in series, in this new system?

 

Yes, you can. It will be as it is.

 

13. Will there be any changes in my superfans reading experience?

 

No, there won’t be any changes.

14. What will happen to my premium series?

 

There won’t be any change. Everything will remain as it is.

 

15. My "Completed" series was not published under early access. So will my story be part of this change?

 

Yes. You can opt in your completed series which was not published under early access under this program anytime. You can check the option in ‘edit information’ page of your series

 

16. I feel the risk of decrease in my superfans, readers and earning with the new change.

 

1. Initially this change will affect the readership. But, this effect is not necessarily negative & it will help increase the subscribers over time.

 

2. The episode will not be free for every reader on the next day. A reader who has read the entire episode before the locked episode will be free to read the next episode on the next day. This part will be locked for other readers. A reader can read only one free episode in a day. Also, with the free coins, the reader will not be able to read any long story in one sitting. If the reader wants to read all the episodes consecutively, they have to buy the author subscription, premium subscription or coins to read the locked episodes.

 

17. Is my content under the event part of this change?

 

Yes, but it won’t hamper your participation in the event.

 

18. I can see random locked/unlocked parts in my series. Is my series under premium?

If you see a premium (Diamond) symbol on your series, then it is under premium. If you have opened your own series, then such parts will not be locked for you. It doesn't mean it will be unlocked for readers. However, if you see the premium symbol, then it is locked for readers from part 16th. 

19. Where should I check the earnings of my newly added premium series? 

 

In your ‘My earning’ section you will be able to see your premium earning on the last day of the month.
