How to write a popular fan-fiction story? Get awesome ideas and plots here.

Our new event, “Fan Fiction” has raised many questions in your mind. To make this a little easy for you we want to spread some light on what kind of content we are looking for and why? 

First question first, What is Fan-Fiction? 

When you write a fictional story based on another already popular novel/tv show/story etc, it’s called Fan-fiction. It’s a very popular concept all over the world. In fan-fiction, writers create a new plot or story based on well-known characters from already popular novels/tv shows/stories etc. It could be anything ranging from the plot, characters, or alternative plots to something which you would have wanted to happen in the story. 

Why must you participate in the “Fan-Fiction” competition?  

1. We keep receiving queries from authors on how to increase reader engagement with their content within the platform. We took the help of our data analysis team and found out that Fanfictions are one of the most read genres on Pratilipi. We designed this event so that you can make your next novel go viral.

2. We have already given a list of popular TV shows in our community. Readers and fans are already interested in these popular series/books. 3. Also, a fan fiction event makes your life a little easy as an author. You do not have to build a plot, or characters from scratch. This event will help you cook a new story from readymade ingredients. You can take inspiration from the plot or characters or maybe the theme of the listed TV shows in the event draft and create something new.

4. According to data, a majority of the viewers of these TV shows are housewives and teenagers who are also regular readers in the Pratilipi app. So you have a good audience here as well for your next fan-fiction story. 

EXAMPLES

Suppose you want to write a fan-fiction series on “The Crown” from Netflix. 

1.  You can take one or a few of the popular characters and create a completely new story from your imagination.
   
   
2. Maybe you can take up the plot which revolves around Diana, Prince Charles, and Camilia Parker Bowles's love triangle. You can create a new angle of the love story in your story which did not happen in the original show. 
   
   
3. You can also take Diana as the main character and knit a story around her. On how things would be if she was alive. Maybe Prince Harry and Megan wouldn’t have left the palace if she was around. 
   
   

Another example could be Harry Potter. Harry Potter has been one of the favourite stories of the authors writing fan fiction. 

1. You can take the characters of Harry or his friends and create a completely different story out of your imagination. Maybe Harry Potter is a negative character in this story?

2. Like, you can tell the story from Lord Voldemort's point of view. And in what eyes did he see Harry Potter? 

3. Another could be a prequel or sequel to Harry Potter. You can write anything before Potter was born and what really happened. Or you can write something about what happened after Lord Voldemort was killed. Is there a new villain? What is going on in Harry’s life now? 

4. Some people also wanted to see Harry and Hermione together. You can change the plot points of the present story and change the couples or love interests of the character. 

Breaking Bad also serve as one of the most popular examples to write Fanfic on. The series took the OTT platform by storm and so many fans had different theories about the plot. Some of them can include theories like: 

1. Holly White, grows up to continue her father’s legacy. It was a known fact that when Walter Jr was revealed about his father's crime he wasn’t a fan of his father’s money-making empire. We can also create a sequel, revolving around Holly’s aspiration to become like her father, having inherited his intelligence and tactful skills. 
   
   
2. You can also add a little sci-fi touch to this thriller-action plot. What if Mike is actually Jesse from the future? And he is actually trying hard to steer his former self down the destructive road he has chosen. A story that leads to Jesse’s transformation 
   
   
3. Another plot idea could be what if Walter White doesn’t die. Maybe he regains a chance to bring together his broken family, take up things for his brother in laws murder and yet be the head of the drug mafia.

These are just examples or ideas on how you too can write a popular fan-fiction story. You can use your own imagination and write your own awesome story. We have given a list of very popular TV shows in the event draft. You can take one of the shows as inspiration and write a new original fan-fiction story.

Apart from the list given, you can also feel free to take any of your favorite TV shows/books/characters as inspiration and write a fan-fiction story based on that.
